About Me!
I am Terry Kitagawa (he/ him), PNW based "jack of all trades" theatremaker, originally from San Francisco and with many years working in NYC. I work as an actor, director, musician, technician, or any combination depending on my schedule.
I believe having knowledge in as many aspects of theatre is immensely useful to making a collaborative space to create spectacular art, and informs my decisions in wherever I may be working. In college, in addition to studying acting and directing, I also studied stagecraft, scenic design, lighting design, stage managing, singing, dance and movement.
At my core is being an educator, as some of the most influential people in my life are teachers. I'm pretty sure I was awful when I started acting, and that no natural talent was to be found in me. But looking back on where I began, I have come so far in my journey as a theatremaker through years of hard work and the help of my many teachers and mentors. I believe that anyone can become an artist through that work and support, and I want to be that teacher for them.
Resident Company Member:
Theatre Diaspora a Portland based AANHPI theatre company that produces readings and workshops to portray authentic AANHPI stories to reach a broader audience. I am currently co-leading the writing group which provides space for AANHPI playwrights to create and workshop their work.
Struts and Frets Theatre Co, a Willamette Valley based theatre company that creates accessible art through both affordable productions, and by having a no cost pre-professional internship for students to work alongside professional actors and technicians.
Cheers!
